How I diagnose the problem
I start with the failing fitting: I open the sink trap, the shower waste, the floor gully or I inspect the pan. I check whether the blockage is close —hair, a wipe, grease— or whether several rooms share the symptom, which points to a branch or stack. I do not force a machine blindly. If the pipe is broken, I show you before I cut.

Paper or a wipe in the toilet bend. I remove it by hand and test the flush.
Replacing a damaged run
Copper, iron or PVC that is cracked, crushed or leaking. I replace only the failing section.

Domestic jobs I do myself
I do these myself, in the home, with plumber’s tools: no tanker and no heavy drainage plant.
- Kitchen sink blockages. Grease, food waste and a blocked trap. Cleaning the fitting and the private branch as far as a hand tool or short spring will reach.
- Shower, bath and basin. Hair, soap and scale in the waste or floor gully. Opening, cleaning and a flow test.
- A toilet blockage near the pan. Paper, a wipe or an object in the bend. Mechanical removal without forcing the ceramic.
- Private pipe repairs. Replacing accessible copper, iron or PVC: cracks, leaks, clamps and joints that no longer seal.
When specialised plant is needed
When the blockage is not the trap or the branch of your flat, the job changes. I do not mix it with a domestic unblock and I do not charge it as if it were the same.
- A communal stack. If several neighbours share the symptom, it is usually the stack. I tell you so you do not pay for a community run.
- Long or buried runs. Plot branches, garden gullies or pipes under a slab need a long powered snake, a camera or jetting. That is quoted separately.
- Roots and heavy drainage. If a tanker, a jetter or a sewer camera is required, I explain it first. I do not sell it as a kitchen-sink unblock.
- How we leave it. I diagnose the scope, I tell you whether I can finish it with a mid-size machine or whether it is specialised drainage work, and I do not start until the price is clear.

The method needed
A hand spring or a short electric snake is domestic work. A camera, jetter or tanker is quoted separately.
Condition of the pipe
If a crack appears while unblocking, I quote the replacement before I cut.
